The file sat untouched for fifteen years, ten months, and two days. It was rejected for submission to GameFAQs in January 2003 and I thought it had been lost shortly thereafter when a Hard Drive in my computer had failed, but apparently I'd saved a copy elsewhere that simply took me fifteen years to locate. Needless to say, I've regone over the file, spruced it up a bit, re-validated existences of all games on the list, then made a checklist companion version to compliment it. And so. here it now is, presented, albeit a good fifteen years late, to the public for the very first time. - Version 1.0 Ta-da! The First Version! It's ALL New! The intention of this list is to be a complete list of all the games released in the U.S.A. for the Turbo Grafx 16 and it's upgraded forms released in North America. _______________________________________________________________________ 2..........................General Information........................2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The TG-16 is by arguably one of the most aggrevating systems to collect for due the way in which the system was sold. Those furtunate enough to own a working TTi TurboDuo, the final version of the system marketed in North America, should count themselves lucky, as that system has all but one of the "upgrades" sold seperately for the base model NEC Turbo Grafx-16 console already built-in. The NEC TurboGrafx-16 (aka TG-16) is a rather barebones console designed from the very start to be upgraded by purchasing pre-planned add-on expansion modules. The core system features just one controller port and a mere RF A/V output. Stereo A/V output was achieved via the optional, not to mention sold seperately, "Turbo-Booster" expansion module. Want to challenege friends to some two-or-more player action? Purchase the "Turbo-Tap" and you'll be able to connect up to five "TurboPad" controllers to your TG-16 or TurboDuo, yes even the TurboDuo has just one controler port built-in. But you get the idea now as to why the TG-16 struggled to sell well in a highly competetive market against the NES and Sega Genesis consoles. So, it wasn't that the TG-16 was a bad system, nor did it lack quality games. It was just that the system would nickel-and-dime you to death for hardware add-ons, which was quite silly. The TG-16 had the other misfortune of making its' North American debut on August 29th, 1989, a mere fifteen days after the launch of the Sega Genesis in the same market. This made the system a rather hard sale for NEC, similarly priced next-gen consoles sharing close launch dates, with the competing unit at clear advantage for launch date and coming from another Japanese company that had already established itself in the same market three years prior with their "Master System" console. While this didn't doom the TG-16, it certainly didn't help it either. In 1994 the final games were released in North America, and the system was discontinued. _______________________________________________________________________ 3............................TurboChip List...........................3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. This list was created after spending many hours conducting extensive research through one big stack of gaming magazine's, a book by one Jeff Rovin, and eBay. Would like to thank Gamepro, Electronic Gaming Monthly, eBay, and Jeff Rovin for unknowingly helping me to make this. And of course, cheese... Ah yes, behold the power of cheese. _______________________________________________________________________ 7...............................Creator...............................7 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Compiled and created by: Stephen Morgan GameFAQs ID: game player s E-mail: game_player_s@yahoo.com _______________________________________________________________________ 8.............................Legal Stuff.............................8 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This list is to be distrubuted freely.
